The Washington Post won three gold medals and a silver medal in the Society of Publication Designers contest. It’s The Post’s best showing in the design competition with three other medalist finalists and 14 awards of excellence across digital, print and social categories.
A collection of three digital presentations from the AR-15 “American Icon” series won a gold medal in the custom digital design project category. The pieces included “The blast effect”, “Terror on repeat” and “The gun that divides a nation.” Multiple pieces from American Icon were named Best in Show at the Society for News Design competition last month.
The visual design of the Newsprint project won a digital redesign gold medal. The project is a cross-organizational collaboration between the newsroom, product, subscriptions, analytics and engineering.

The visuals created for and in support of the Field Trip podcast won a silver medal. The cover art was also a finalist in the podcast album art category.
The other two finalists were the Searching for Maura special section and the Terror on Repeat special section, both in the print category.
