We are delighted to announce that Susan Levine, who is known for her thoughtful story conception, deft editing skills and grace under pressure, will join the America team as a deputy editor.
Susan brings a wealth of editing experience to this critical role, as well as deep familiarity with the major stories shaping American life. Since 2018, she has been editor of the Talent Network, a position requiring close collaboration across the newsroom. In that role, she has coordinated freelancers for breaking-news coverage of mass shootings, hurricanes, protests and political rallies and shepherded compelling enterprise stories on a wide range of topics. She has also led independent, highly visual projects on subjects such as school lunches, American workers, infrastructure and scientific marvels worthy of vacation travel.
For much of last year, Susan filled in on the International desk, serving first as interim deputy editor to Doug Jehl and then editing the Asia team for two months from Seoul; Taipei, Taiwan; and Washington. She again assisted the desk in May as an editor with the London hub.
Susan has worked at The Post for more than 22 years. From 1993 to 2008, she was a Metro reporter covering health, medicine, aging and the death penalty, a special projects reporter and an assistant Virginia editor for state government and politics. She spent two years at Politico as deputy editor of its health-care policy vertical, then returned to The Post in 2015 as the deputy health, science and environment editor in National.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Columbia University, where she earned a master’s degree in journalism.
