BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month will return for September 2020 with brand new live performances from Miley Cyrus, Little Mix, YUNGBLUD, Jorja Smith, Biffy Clyro and more.
Hosted by Clara Amfo, each Live Lounge will see artists perform their own music as well as exclusive cover tracks.
Every Monday-Thursday throughout September, the Live Lounge can be heard live on Radio 1 and BBC Sounds from midday.
This year, new performances will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Mondays and Wednesdays will feature some of the biggest and best classic Live Lounges from the archives, including Harry Styles, Demi Lovato, Usher and more. Viewers will be able to watch all the new Live Lounges first on the Radio 1 iPlayer channel, and later on Radio 1’s YouTube channel.
All of the new Live Lounges this year will be recorded in the BBC’s Radio Theatre in order to comply with social distancing guidelines, with the exception of Miley Cyrus’ which will be recorded in LA in line with local restrictions.
September will also see the launch of brand new podcast The Radio 1 Interview, a weekly podcast on BBC Sounds where music fans can hear some of the most exciting interviews to have taken place on the station each week.
From Hottest Record artists with Annie Mac to the some of the biggest names in rock with Dan P Carter, fans can hear directly from their favourite performers as well enjoying some of their favourite new and classic tracks.
The first episode, Clara Amfo’s interview with Biffy Clyro, will drop on BBC Sounds during the first week of September.
Little Mix said: “It’s been over four years since our last Live Lounge and we are so ready and excited to get back in that studio! We’ll be performing our brand new single Holiday and a surprise cover which we can’t wait for you to hear!”
YUNGBLUD commented: “Playing the Live Lounge was always a massive dream of mine – I used to have the CDs as a kid. To do it last year was so insane, but this time I have eight months of repressed energy and a whole lot of fire to get out. So bring your petrol!”
Clara Amfo said: “I am absolutely delighted that Live Lounge Month is returning in September! Live music is an infinite source of joy and something that I know we have all missed terribly over the past few months. From rapidly emerging artists, to our established faves, I can’t wait to hear what all our Live Lounge artists have lined up for us!”
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, added: “In a year when many of us have felt the absence of live music, we’re proud to be able to bring music fans together this September for an entire month dedicated to the magic of the Live Lounge. Music has long been at the heart of Radio 1, with the Live Lounge offering an unrivalled platform for intimate live performance, and we look forward to seeing what unforgettable moments this year will bring.”
