NHS at 75: 5 Live Takeover
3 July, 1am-noon

5 Live is giving over 11 hours of output to their audience – to tell us about their experiences of the NHS – good, bad and future concerns.

To mark 75 years of the NHS, 5 Live is staging an 11-hour takeover, which will see 5 Live programmes dedicating entire shows to hear from patients, nurses, doctors, hospital staff, experts, carers, GPs and policy makers. 5 Live’s NHS Health Check will aim to get a clear picture of the current state of the health service in 2023. This will not be an 11 hour celebration of the NHS, but a true reflection of our health service on its 75th birthday.

From 1am to 1pm, we’ll be handing over the airways to those on the frontline of healthcare in the UK including staff, patients and experts. From 1am, Dotun Adebayo will be on shift at a London hospital with a team of night workers including doctors, nurses, cleaners, porters, canteen staff, etc. We’ll follow them through the shift until they hand over to their colleagues in the morning. Wake Up To Money will be discussing all things budget, while on Breakfast we’ll bid farewell to our nightshift workers, look at personal action as a means of prevention and hear strong stories of hope. Nicky Campbell will hear listeners stories and speak to policy makers. Naga Munchetty will be focusing on women’s health, including her own story, and will end with a solutions-focused look to the future with Kevin Fong.
