MAE MULLER SHARES OUTPOURING OF VULNERABILITY ON STRIPPED-BACK NEW TRACK “MTJL”

25 AUGUST 2023 (TORONTO, ON) — Ahead of the release of her debut album, Mae Muller shares another side to her forthcoming record in the form of “MJTL”, an openly emotional ballad where Mae muses over her vulnerabilities and insecurities, and then ultimately reconciles; “Maybe that’s just life”. Stripping everything back to just the simplicity of her vocal and an acoustic guitar, Mae’s beautiful voice is allowed the space to step into the spotlight, making “MTJL” a standout moment on, Sorry I’m Late out Friday, September 15.

Of “MTJL”, Mae says, “I think it was really important for me to have a moment where it was just going to be really stripped-back, just me and a guitar. I just wanted it to be a diary entry – I wasn’t worried about the usual verse, pre-chorus, chorus structure of the song as such, I just wanted to get it off my chest. I feel like as humans we’re very good at nit-picking and we all want what we can’t have, so this track was just a big outpouring of all my insecurities. I definitely have a lot but I’m learning to accept them, it’s what makes us human. I think this is probably the best song I’ve written lyrically, and I’m very proud of it.”

Working with NEIKED on the track, ‘MTJL’ continues the self-reflective train of thought explored on previous single, “Me Myself & I”, in which Mae vows to stop turning to others for validation, instead prioritizing herself. Both tracks feature on Sorry, I’m Late alongside Top 10 single and No.1 airplay hit I Wrote A Song, the late 2022 single “I Just Came To Dance” — a gorgeous piece of pop escapism, and the platinum-certified smash hit “Better Days” (a US chart-topping collaboration with NEIKED and Polo G).

Mae’s debut album, Sorry I’m Late – a message to fans who have stuck by her during a period of growth and self-discovery is out on September 15th. Pre order here. The 17-track album is full of songs that are deeply personal yet demonstrate Mae’s deft ability to celebrate the female experience at large, capturing the mood of her generation with playful precision. Mae explores love and loss, dating and relationships with fearless honesty, confronting her own experiences whilst also capturing the broader frustrations of young women today. Whilst a fierce feminism often informs her songwriting, her new music exposes a much more vulnerable side. Sorry I’m Late is a love letter to the multiplicity of women. The album’s captivating artwork (below) shows the many sides of Mae, each character representing a different song on the record.

A singular talent, Mae makes pop music that packs a real punch and her debut album, Sorry I’m Late is no exception.

Mae continues to appear across the festivals over the summer having performed at Truck, Tramlines, Brighton Pride and more. Further appearances include Victorious Festival, The Big Feastival, and Sundown in Spain. For full tour updates and itinerary, visit maemuller.com.
