Building on their strong, long-standing partnership marked by successful titles such as Gomorrah, ZeroZeroZero, The Immortal and Django, Cattleya – part of ITV Studios – and the writers Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli are to co-found a new production company.
Dedalus, as it is to be called, will be aimed at developing and producing films and television series by building on the creative approach that has distinguished the collaboration between Cattleya and Fasoli – Ravagli to date, and by foregrounding the role of research and innovation alongside that of the writers’ full engagement throughout the creative process.
Dedalus is already working on two very ambitious projects. Everything We Ever Wanted a theatrical feature about a story of love and friendship amidst a mid-seventies Neapolitan mob, set during two different time periods and directed by Francesca Comencini. The second project, Erba, a television series based on one of Italy’s most disturbing crime stories, will look carefully at the context in which the murders that horrified the nation in December 2006, and their aftermath, took place.
Riccardo Tozzi, founder of Cattleya, says: “Over the years we have formed a special bond with Leonardo and Maddalena, based on a unique way of working together which actively involves them at every stage of our shared projects. That’s why starting a new company together is the natural continuation of this journey that has resulted in the creation of new and original ways to tell stories.”
Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli add: “Our long-time collaboration with Cattleya and the great adventures we have shared have allowed us to be thoroughly involved in our projects, starting with the writing process and continuing throughout shooting. This has quite organically led to a new vehicle for our shared storytelling and through which we aim to set off in new directions, with the same fun and passion that have distinguished all that we have done together.”
Lisa Perrin, Managing Director, International Production, ITV Studios, said, “We are incredibly proud to be associated with the game-changing work that has resulted from Cattleya’s partnership with Leonardo and Maddalena to date. This next step in their journey already has us on the edge of our seats about what more could be possible.”
