BBC and ITV confirm match spilt for UEFA Euro 2024

Next summer’s tournament kicks off in Germany on Friday 14 June

Following the draw last Saturday in Hamburg for UEFA Euro 2024, the BBC and ITV can confirm which broadcaster will show their chosen fixtures for next summer’s tournament in Germany which kicks off on Friday 14 June.

The BBC will show England’s first two group games against Serbia (16 June) and Denmark (20 June) as Gareth Southgate’s squad begin their bid to go one step further than they did in Euro 2020. The BBC will also show Scotland’s group games against Switzerland (19 June) and Hungary (23 June) following their impressive qualifying campaign where they only suffered one loss.

The BBC will have first choice of the quarter-finals and will also show live games featuring some of the biggest teams in Europe including current holders Italy, World Cup runners-up France versus the Netherlands (21 June), Spain, Belgium and Portugal plus two group games featuring the hosts Germany.

If Wales qualify from the playoffs, the BBC will also broadcast their group games against France and the Netherlands.

Philip Bernie, Head of BBC Sport Content says: “With the UEFA European Championships, the Paris Olympics and Wimbledon all on the BBC next year, our summer of sport promises to be very memorable. In addition to live games featuring all the tournament favourites, we are very pleased to have two games each for England and Scotland in the group stages, and we hope to add two more for Wales if they qualify too. We’re proud that the BBC will once again bring audiences comprehensive coverage and analysis of the whole event across TV, radio and online, ensuring fans, wherever they are, can enjoy it all.”

ITV will show the opening game of the tournament Germany vs Scotland and have the first pick of the Round of 16 and semi-finals. Both BBC and ITV will show the final.

In addition, ITV will show England’s final Group game against Slovenia and will also cover the winner of Play-off A, which could be Wales, against Austria, in Group D on 21 June.

ITV will also show what is likely to be one of the most anticipated early tournament games – the Group B match between Spain, who are among the favourites, and Italy, the holders. Among ITV’s Group stage coverage are games featuring many pundits’ favourites, France (against Austria on 17 June) as well as other heavy-hitters in Portugal (v Turkey on 22 June), Croatia (v Spain on 15 June) and Belgium (v Slovakia on 17 June).

Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, says: “Following the draw, we can now begin to look forward to next summer’s Euros in Germany and we’re delighted to be able to bring viewers what should be a flying start to the tournament with the opening match between Scotland and the hosts. We have first picks of the Round of 16 and the Semi-finals and with England among the favourites, we hope to be able to bring viewers their biggest moments from what could be an historic tournament for them. We’ll be announcing our coverage plans in full in the lead-up to next June with the aim of bringing viewers the very best of Euro 2024.”
