Apple Original Films celebrates the world premiere of “Girls State” at Sundance Film Festival

“Girls State” premieres globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 5

Today at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Apple Original Films celebrated the world premiere of the highly anticipated documentary film “Girls State,” premiering globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Attendees at the “Girls State” premiere event included award-winning directors and producers Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, film subjects Faith Glasgow, Emily Worthmore, Cecilia Bartin, Tochi Ihekona, Anna Chellis, Maddie Rowan, Brooke Taylor, as well as executive producer Davis Guggenheim, cinematographers Laela Kilbourn and Laura Hudock, editor Amy Foote, composer T. Griffin, sound supervisor Avantika Nimbalker, co-producers Aurora Brachman and Khaula Malik, and more.

What would American democracy look like in the hands of teenage girls? A political coming-of-age story and a stirring reimagination of what it means to govern, “Girls State” follows young female leaders — from wildly different backgrounds across Missouri — as they navigate an immersive experiment to build a government from the ground up.

An Apple Original Film hailing from Concordia Studio, “Girls State” is directed and produced by award-winning filmmakers McBaine and Moss through Miles End Films. Guggenheim and Laurene Powell Jobs executive produce through Concordia Studio. Nicole Stott and Jonathan Silberberg also serve as executive producers. The subjects featured in the film are Faith Glasgow, Emily Worthmore, Cecilia Bartin, Tochi Ihekona, Madeline Rowan, Brooke Taylor, Nisha Murali and Anna Chellis.

Following its debut at Sundance, the groundbreaking documentary “Boys State” was broadly acclaimed, earning accolades including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special; two Critics Choice Documentary Award wins including Best Political Documentary; the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize; the SXSW Film Festival Louis Black “Lone Star” Award; and, a DGA Award nomination, among many other honors.
