Louisville, KY, [August 26] — Louisville-based country-blues artist Andy Branton is excited to announce the release of his new single, “Big Time,” now available on all major streaming platforms.
Co-written with his wife Cat Vining and best friend Evan Ogden, “Big Time” is an authentic and heartfelt ode to the real and the absurd facets of a musician’s journey. Drawing on personal experiences from a move from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Louisville, Kentucky, and a pivotal trip to a New Orleans songwriter’s festival, Branton’s latest song takes listeners on a reflective journey through the highs and lows of chasing a dream.
“I wrote ‘Big Time’ after my wife and I had just relocated to Louisville, and I was heading off to an unpaid songwriter’s festival in New Orleans,” shares Branton. “We had just gotten married and were practically penniless. The first verse captures the despair I felt at that moment, yet the song evolves to embrace the camaraderie and the raw essence of a musician’s life on the road.”
The journey from Louisville to New Orleans was filled with moments of inspiration for Branton. Along the way, he and Ogden captured the unique struggles and simple joys of life as touring musicians. From sleeping arrangements on the floor of an AirBnB to fast food wrappers and happy hour gigs that funded the journey, “Big Time” paints a vivid picture of the road life that many musicians can relate to.
In the song’s final verse, Branton reflects on his trusty Gibson Hummingbird guitar, a companion on his musical journey since 2011. The guitar, which has weathered numerous repairs, becomes a metaphor for resilience and the longing for the ability to mend life’s fractures as easily.
“Every time my guitar has been broken, I’ve managed to get it repaired and back in my hands,” Branton reflects. “It’s a testament to the idea that even when things break, they can be fixed. This is the sentiment that concludes the song.”
“Big Time” continues the storytelling tradition that Branton has honed over the years, capturing the spirit of the road, the joys and hardships of a musician’s life, and the bonds formed along the way.
A veteran of the West Alabama bar scene, Andy Branton has spent years perfecting his craft, playing in various country and rock & roll bands. His debut EP, “47 Minutes Away,” introduced his soulful sound and lyrical storytelling to a wider audience, and he has been a rising presence in the country-blues scene ever since.
