Tune in to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on January 5
Published: December 9, 2024 — It’s the most wonderful time of the year — awards season, that is. And this year, people deeply connected with the many acclaimed movies and series that earned recognition as Golden Globes nominees. Strong women were front and center, as the musical crime drama Emilia Pérez — starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Selena Gomez — received 10 nominations. This is Gascón’s first Golden Globe nomination — Gascón also made history as the first trans actor nominated in a Motion Picture category. And Emilia Pérez made history as the most nominated film in the Musical or Comedy category in Golden Globes history.
Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie’s stunning performance in Maria didn’t go unrecognized — she received a nomination for Best Female Actor in a drama film, and Keri Russell was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Television Series for her role in The Diplomat.
A few series also stood out this year: Javier Bardem received a nomination for the role of José Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. And Baby Reindeer, the thriller about a struggling comedian who finds himself navigating a female stalker, earned three nominations of its own. Plus, Squid Game got the green light, receiving a nomination for Best Drama Series.
There may be plenty of drama in this year’s nominees, but there’s always room for laughs, too. Glen Powell was nominated for Best Male Actor in a comedy movie for his portrayal of Gary in Hit Man. And speaking of comedies, Golden Globes voters loved Adam Sandler, nominating him for his stand-up comedy special Love You.
This also marks the first Golden Globe nominations for Saldaña, Powell, Monsters star Cooper Koch, Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning, Adam Brody of Nobody Wants This, and Ripley’s Dakota Fanning.
Netflix led all studios and networks, receiving 36 nominations this year. Read on for the full list, and tune in to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 5 starting at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on CBS.
