Published: November 26th 2024 — Setting yet another milestone for Netflix Thailand, HUNGER — the film that took global audiences into a fierce battleground of culinary masterminds — continues to make history.

Released in 2023, HUNGER soared to #1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films chart, claiming the top spot in 51 countries and breaking into the Top 10 in an additional 91 countries. The film also sparked the viral “Crybaby Noodles” phenomenon, marking a groundbreaking chapter for Thai content last year.

The film’s impact endures as Chutimon ‘Aokbab’ Chuengcharoensukying, who portrayed Aoy — a young chef who rose from cooking street-side noodles to the high-end culinary world — has secured global recognition by winning Best Performance by an Actress at the prestigious 52nd International Emmy® Awards. Standing out among a shortlist of outstanding talents from around the world, Chutimon also made history as the first Thai actress to be nominated in this category.

In her acceptance speech, Chutimon said, “Thank you so much. This means a lot to me. I would like to thank the Academy for giving me this recognition. Thank you to my team, HUNGER. Thank you to my showrunner, Kongdej Jaturanrasmee, my producer, Soros Sukhum, and my director, Sitisiri Mongkolsiri. Thank you for believing in me. And to all the cast and crew, as well as all the chefs—if you’re watching… your support brought my character to life. Special thanks to Netflix Thailand for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

Directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri and written by acclaimed screenwriter Kongdej Jaturanrasmee, HUNGER won Best Feature Film at the 2023 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) in Singapore. The film also swept the National Winner category at the AACA, claiming Best Original Screenplay by Kongdej Jaturanrasmee and Best Actor in a Leading Role awarded to Nopachai ‘Peter’ Jayanama for his portrayal of Chef Paul.

This latest global triumph further cements HUNGER’s legacy, elevating Thai cinema on the world stage and bringing immense pride to Thai film enthusiasts worldwide.
