Kyla Tilley Unveils New Album "Nature"—A Musical Reflection on Earth's Timeless Wonders

September 10, 2024 — Acclaimed singer-songwriter Kyla Tilley is thrilled to announce the release of her latest album, Nature, a deeply introspective work that explores the enduring elements of our planet. With four evocative tracks, Nature invites listeners on a journey through time, reflecting on the ancient forces that have shaped our world long before humans appeared and will continue to persist long after we are gone.

“I have long been taken with the notion of the long now, and the relatively minuscule amount of time that humans have spent on this earth,” says Tilley. “In Nature, I present four songs that deal with elements of the earth that were here before us, and will remain once we’ve seen ourselves out.”

The album opens with “Taken by the Wind,” a meditation on the birds we see daily—descendants of the dinosaurs that walked the earth 245 million years ago. Through this track, Tilley draws parallels between the routines of birds and humans, underscoring our shared existence and the ancient history of these creatures. The song has quickly become a favorite in Tilley’s live performances, resonating deeply with audiences.

Next, “Majesty of Trees” delves into the secretive lives of trees and their ability to communicate through underground fungal networks—an interconnected system often referred to as the “Wood-Wide Web.” This song, crafted live during one of Tilley’s Twitch shows, captures the awe-inspiring beauty and complexity of nature’s oldest living organisms.

“An Inordinate Fondness” pays homage to the diverse and vibrant world of beetles, inspired by British naturalist John Haldane’s famous observation about a creator’s supposed fondness for these creatures. The track, enriched by input from violinist Ed Hudson, is a vivid exploration of beetles’ myriad forms and their ubiquitous presence across the globe.

The album concludes with “It’s Just Always Been There,” a poignant reflection on the timelessness of the ocean. Drawing inspiration from Tilley’s own experiences growing up on an island and the poetic insights of a fisherman friend, this song encapsulates the ocean’s ancient, mysterious presence. Tilley uses the electric guitar to convey the vast, unknowable nature of the seas, bringing the album to a powerful and contemplative close.

With Nature, Kyla Tilley continues to push the boundaries of her craft, blending lyrical storytelling with intricate musical arrangements. The album is now available on all major streaming platforms, and Tilley is set to perform selections from Nature in an upcoming series of live shows, both in-person and online.
