July 1, 2024 0 BBC Radio 1 has announced Vintage Culture, NIKS and A Little Sound as the newest members of the Radio 1 Residency line-up.

From Thursday 4 July, Radio 1’s Residency will continue on the network and Radio 1 Dance with a brand new line-up of world-renowned artists. Radio 1’s Residency brings listeners into the world of the biggest names in pioneering, high-energy Dance and Electronic music.

Each resident will take over Radio 1 every Thursday for four weeks from 11pm – 1am, shining a spotlight on the freshest, most influential and emerging sounds from across the international club scene.

The line-up for July, August and September is as follows:

July: Vintage Culture
August: NIKS
September: A Little Sound

Details of a one-off special show on 29 August with a guest artist, will be announced soon.

Vintage Culture

Vintage Culture is a Brazilian DJ and producer known for his emotionally charged house sound and global hits ‘It Is What It Is’ and ‘Nightjar. Now making waves internationally, Vintage Culture has collaborated with artists like John Summit, and Moby, and created remixes for Rufus Du Sol, Maverick Sabre, Cassian, and Bob Moses. He has performed residencies at iconic venues like Hi Ibiza and Tao Group in Las Vegas and has headlined mainstages of Tomorrowland, EDC, and Ultra Music Festival. Vintage Culture released his debut album, Promised Land in May 2024.

It’s a privilege to share my music and connect with listeners in the UK and around the world on this legendary radio station. I’m excited to bring my sound and vision to the BBC and be part of the Radio 1 family.”

NIKS

DJ and self-taught producer NIKS is renowned for sets that combine contemporary UK dance music and underground sounds from the past and present. NIKS has performed at Panorama Bar, Glastonbury Festival and The Warehouse Project’s Concourse. In 2022, she was nominated as one of Mixmag’s ‘Breakthrough DJs of the Year’. A co-founder of Black Artist Database (B.A.D.) NIKS organises events, educational workshops and mix series’. In 2023 NIKS launched the label to accompany the existing platform, releasing music that aligns with its mission, to showcase high-energy, celebratory Black music.

NIKS says: ‘I’m super excited to be joining the BBC Radio 1 residency in August this year. As someone who grew up listening to ‘In New DJs We Trust’, it’s a true honour to join this legacy of homegrown DJs and the legendary show. I’m really looking forward to showcasing the different musical facets that have formed my sound today, from the early 90s right through to the present day. Catch you all on the airwaves this summer.”

A Little Sound

Self-taught musician A Little Sound has vocalled some of the biggest D&B anthems of recent years with Kanine, Technimatic, Gray and Friction. The last two years have seen her tour across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, including standout festival performances at Glastonbury, Boomtown, Creamfields and Rampage. In 2023 she won BBC Radio 1’s Future Star Award, collaborated with Hedex and Rudimental, and signed to iconic dance label Ministry Of Sound. The year ended with her single ‘Back To Back (B2B)’ spending 8 weeks on the BBC Radio 1 playlist. This Summer, A Little Sound will be performing at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Tomorrowland.

A Little Sound says: “Growing up surrounded by music, Radio 1 had a major part to play in helping me find my “little sound”. Now that I have found that my sound was deeply embedded in the DnB scene, they have continuously supported the journey and I am super grateful to share it all with them! From a time where I used to narrate school plays, to the present where I’m now hosting my own residency show is actually so surreal and I can’t thank the Radio 1 team enough.”
