Record numbers watch the Women’s Super League on the BBC

Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday pulled in a record average audience for the Women’s Super League (WSL) on the BBC.

The fixture between the current WSL champions and Liverpool was the most matched WSL game ever with an average TV audience of 796k viewers and a peak of 955k.

There were a further 141,000 requests to watch the fixture, which saw Lauren James score a hat-trick for her club, on BBC iPlayer.

Until this game, Arsenal v Aston Villa was the most watched game of the 2023/24 season at 766k, also aired on the BBC.

The next WSL fixture on the BBC is Bristol City v Manchester United on 26 November, live on the Red Button and BBC iPlayer from 12:15, followed by Arsenal v Chelsea on 10 December, live on BBC One.
