Shane O’Neill is joining The Post as the full-time writer of the Style section’s newsletter, Style Memo, which launched in September.
Shane comes to us from the New York Times, where he has worked as an award-winning senior video editor since 2016 and was also a frequent contributing writer to the Times’s Culture and Style departments on a range of must-read subjects, such as the unbuttoned-jeans fad, workwear issues for nonbinary professionals and an ode to 1990s TV people letting loose, as well as writing profiles (“Jeopardy!” champ Amy Schneider) and personal essays (“Talking Sex With Dad [In the Ford Taurus]”). He has also hosted the Times’s roundtables on Twitter Spaces and has been a frequent panelist on NPR’s “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me.”
Originally from Oak Park, Ill., Shane earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Macalester College and lived in Madison, Wis., for many years before moving to New York, where he now lives with his ancient cat, Wanda. When not working, he can be found perusing the city’s cabarets, drag shows, dance parties and DIY music venues. He will be based in Brooklyn but intends to make frequent trips to the Washington newsroom to get acquainted and collaborate with colleagues.
